Belize Maya Ruin Tours

Explore the ancient Maya civilization that prominently marks the country of Belize with its many magnificent archaeological sites. Grand Caribe offers three of the most favored Maya ruin tours in Belize.

Altun Ha, located in the Belize district, was a wealthy ceremonial center boasting two main plazas and thirteen structures. Altun Ha is where the internationally famed jade head was found. The Jade Head is one of the largest object carved jade in the Maya civilization.

Lamanai, Maya word for “submerged crocodile”, is in Northern Belize and named after the numerous crocodile motifs at the site. Lamanai boasts the third tallest Maya structure in Belize standing at 33 meters tall. The most iconic feature of this site is the limestone mask temple – the mask measures at 4.2 meters high.

Xunantunich, located in the Cayo District, is one of the oldest archaeological sites in Belize. Xunantunich is the second tallest Maya structure in the country, standing at 130 feet tall. Getting to this archaeological site is a fun part – as guests can get a hands-on experience of the hand-cranked ferry that crosses the Mopan River.
