Belize Snorkeling Caye Caulker – The Caye Caulker Day Sail

There’s something about being out on the water that just seems to put you in a good mood. There’s a reason for this. Studies show that the varying moods of a person are largely affected by a body chemical called serotonin. The saltiness of the sea air is composed of charged ions that help in the body’s oxygen absorption which in turn results to more balanced levels of serotonin. The more balanced your body’s serotonin levels are, the happier you’re going to be. Now if this isn’t enough to get you to go sailing, I invite you to continue reading.
Imagine. Open water as far as the eye can see that seem to kiss the clear blue skies off in the horizon, combined with that cool refreshing ocean air, the gentle breeze caressing your face, and the magnificent sun as its rays re-energize your body!!!
This, coupled with a few awe-amazing snorkeling stops, make for a day of memories that will last a lifetime. This is what you get on our Caye Caulker Day Sailing adventure.

Your day starts around 8:30AM, with a shuttle picking you up at the end of our dock. With the sun making its glorious ascent into the morning skies, you make your way along the crystalline waters of the Caribbean Sea. After a short 10-15 minute boat ride, you are at the Catamaran – your transportation for the remainder of the day.
On board the Cat – choose your place of relaxation. Grab a bean bag and make yourself comfortable, or start your day of sunning on the trampoline at the front of the Cat. Not interested in Sunning? That’s okay, head to the rear of the Cat and lounge under the canopy with the Captain. This is probably a good time to get a deeper insight into the day’s activities.

Did I mention how relaxing sailing is? The sounds of the swooshing and splashing of the water, the rhythmic movement of the Cat and the sound of the wind in the sails all combine to create an ambiance of relaxation and has the potential to soothe the most stressed mind.

Within 20 minutes you’re at your first snorkeling stop, Hol Chan Marine Reserve. The reserve itself is Belize’s oldest Marine Reserve, becoming a reserve May 2, 1987. I was 7 years old. The reserve itself covers approximately 3 square miles. Because of its protected status, this area provides an unparalleled diving/snorkeling experience for visitors and an important refuge for marine life along the northern section of the Belize Barrier Reef.

After snorkeling over colorful coral formations, and the occasional peeking of the Moray Eel – gliding with the sea turtles and being amazed by the dazzling colors of the fishes and sea life, it’s time to make your way over to Shark Ray Alley.

This is where you get to swim with the nurse sharks and stingrays. For the adventurer looking for that adrenaline rush that comes with being inches away from 15-20 (Nurse) sharks measuring anyway from 2 ft to 10 ft, this is the spot for you. Don’t worry; Nurse Sharks are like Labrador puppies of the sea.

Following your sea and sun adventure, it is time to make your way over to sleepy Caye Caulker. Still a fishing village, Caye Caulker provides a Go-Slow feel. The main mode of transportation is “Dutch” or by feet!!! Lunch in Caye Caulker may be had at one of the many restaurants on the island.
Once you’ve spent your two plus hours on the island, it’s time to take refuge in the calming, relaxing experience of the sailing boat once again, making your way back home. Once on-board, the captain serves up a healthy serving of Rum Punch, beer, Juice, Sodas or water depending on each individual tastes. Throughout this trip, water, fruits and snacks are also available.
