San Pedro, Belize’s 2015 Lobster Festival Takes Over The Island

June 15th is the official opening of Lobster Season in Belize.  And the whole country, which for many years was a scattering of fishing villages, celebrates…in a very big and buttery way.

Ambergris Caye’s festival is one week long.  A lobster crawl about town to fill your “lobster passport” with stamps to win the big prize at the Saturday night block party.

At Grand Caribe Resort, we jumped right in with games for adults, kids and staff…and a gorgeous Lobster menu at our on-site restaurant, Rain Restaurant and Roof-Top Terrace.

Here are some pictures our Activity Day at the resort.

Lots of prizes for kids and adults.

Some of the staff suited up and ready for the festivities.

All into the trap…

Staff up next!

And then a bit of lobster fishing…rods were handing out and lobster toys placed in the water.  One must concentrate most intently…

On to the lobster volleyball.

The fun continued all week long with events at bar, shops and restaurants around the island.   And culminated in the big Saturday block party in San Pedro’s Central Park with dishes as varied as Lobster Pierogies, Lobster Corn Pudding and…mmmm…Lobster Corn Dogs.

AND if you missed it, there is still the Caye Caulker Lobster Festival, the oldest in the country, coming up this weekend!

Grand Caribe has organized a quick boat trip over right from our dock on Sunday, June 28th.

Let the lobster eating continue.  And if you are going to miss both this year…the season is open until February 15th and it is never to early to start planning for next year’s festivals.

Oh…and don’t forget September Celebrations in Belize, Halloween (it’s huge here!), Garifuna Settlement Day…there is always a party on the island.
