It is human nature to search for happiness! In fact, most people spend their entire lives searching for the one thing, person, place or situation that makes them most happy. For a lot this yearning is never quenched. This was NOT the case for two of our guests that recently offered us the honor of hosting their 60th wedding anniversary.
This was truly an honor. Bob and Patty Steinfeld, checked into Grand Caribe Belize on May 28th visiting San Pedro Ambergris Caye for the very first time; this vacation was a gift from their lovely daughter Brenda and her husband Mark.
Bob and Patti met through a mutual acquaintance when Patty was 18 and Bob was 21. Their first date was a blind date. Patty reminisced on the first time they met, “It was raining the night he came to get me for our date. The poor man got soaking wet as he made his way from the car to my door. It was quite adorable.”
Bob was in the army at the time and Patty was in High School. Their courtship was short – and they just knew they were meant for each other. They were married shortly after.
Bob held down two jobs so that Patty could be a stay-at-home mom and nurture their kids and bring them up the right way. Bob: “A mother is very important in the lives of her kids. She spends lots of time with them. As a father and a man –I believed that it was important for me to be able to provide for my family so that my wife could be a stay at home mom. I worked two jobs for the most part of my life to be able to do so. But you have to understand, she was not forced to become a stay at home mom, and I was not forced to take on two jobs, we just knew what we had to do to have the family that we wanted to have. And we did it.”
Bob and Patty have three lovely children two girls and one boy.
Patty: “It is important for me to be a mother and a wife, and I was willing to do what it takes to be just that for our kids and my husband. It was very important for me, that the kids had a personal relationship with God; and I, being there with them, to guide them all the way assured that it would happen. Bob provided and we were always so very happy.”
They were married November 18th 1956.
Needless to say, I wanted to know what the secret was – to such a long, happy and successful marriage.
Bob: “God has to be at the center of your relationship. You have to allow yourself to be guided. And very importantly – you have to be willing to forgive. Truly forgive. Realize that you are human – and that we all make mistakes, some are small, and some are big. But with love, God and the willingness to forgive you can make it work. Stick with each other.”
Bob and Patty renewed their vows on the beach at Grand Caribe Belize, after 60 years of being married.
Grand Caribe Belize takes this opportunity to wish Mr. & Mrs Steinfeld, many more years of joy, health and happiness. See you for the 61st wedding anniversary.
